About Us
Urban Village is a 72 unit, low and moderate income, apartment complex located on 16th Street, Newton Street and Meridian
Place in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Columbia Heights is a vibrant, multi-cultural neighborhood
with signs of new commercial and residential development at and around the metro stop. The commercial development known as
D.C. USA recently opened with a new stores and new restaurants. The affordable homes at Urban Village provide a beautiful
place to live for a diverse population of working class families and retired seniors on fixed incomes in a fast-growing
neighborhood, where rental and home prices are skyrocketing.
In 2003, the residents of Urban Village entered into an agreement with Somerset Development Company to acquire, preserve
and restore the affordability of the apartment complex, and to renovate the apartments. The renovations included a new
computer room, new office for a tenant service coordinator, and community spaces. The Urban Village Community Center
Association received its 501c3 status in 2004 and began providing programming such as an After-School Program, a Summer
Program, and programs for seniors, and dance instruction.
